The project SMART-Growth (cofunded by the European Union under I3 Instruments programme | G.A. 101115130 | I3-2021-INV2a) represents an innovative example of how Industry 4.0 can be applied to highly specialized sectors, such as the production of crystals for photonic and laser applications.

The integration of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies allows us to face and resolve the specific challenges of a highly energy-intensive production process with complex technological critical issues, such as that of crystal growth through Czochralski (Cz) ovens.

The role of Holonix

Holonix, as the IT partner of the project, plays a crucial role in the design and implementation of the software solutions necessary to manage and analyze the data generated during the production process. The use of IIoT technologies allows enormous quantities of data from machines, sensors and automation to be collected and historicized, while AI is used to optimize diagnostics and process control.

The zero-defect approach

A fundamental aspect is the adoption of a zero-defect and quality 4.0 approach, which aims to guarantee optimal quality in production, reducing defects and improving overall efficiency. These tools not only allow you to monitor every phase of production in real time, but also to predict and prevent any problems, improving sustainability and reducing energy consumption.

In summary, SMART-Growth is part of a context of technological innovation that makes data collection and analysis a fundamental lever for improving industrial processes, bringing the production of crystals to levels of efficiency and quality never achieved before.
