Project goals
The FLEXINET project aimed to provide software services supporting the design and supply of flexible interoperable networks of manufacturing systems which can be quickly and accurately reconfigured as new software technologies are implemented. It applied advanced solution techniques to the supply of a set services to configure an intelligent manufacturing network that could support the design of high-quality manufacturing networks, understand the costs and risks associated with network reconfiguration, and thereby mitigate the impact of system incompatibilities as networks change over time.
Specifically:
- Understanding how to best configure and reconfigure a global manufacturing network in the context of ever-changing product-service requirements.
- Providing software services supporting the design and supply of flexible interoperable networks of manufacturing systems which can be quickly and accurately reconfigured.
- Understanding the requirements and issues related to information, materials, and financial flows for product support systems in globalized and intelligent manufacturing networks.
- Providing a semantic and formal knowledge base from which to start the flexible reconfiguration of networks of globalized and intelligent manufacturing information systems meeting the needs of SMEs and OEMs.
- Defining methods and processes and building FLEXINET services that could be used in the design of network configurations to support the dynamic evolution of service-product manufacturing networks.
- Applying FLEXINET concepts to industrial use cases and evaluating their results.
- Leveraging and spreading FLEXINET results to scientific and industrial organizations, including standardization bodies.
