In June 2026, Holonix’s R&D team took part in a technical visit and the RemaNet Demo Day, hosted by CRITT-TJFU (Centre Régional d’Innovation et de Transfert de Technologie – Technologies Jet Fluide et Usinage), a French research centre specialising in advanced manufacturing and machining technologies, at its laboratories in Bar-le-Duc, France. The event provided an opportunity to explore cutting-edge technologies and gain insight into the progress of the use-case RemaNet dedicated to the energy sector.

The Demo Day focused on the repair of end-of-life components through the combined use of abrasive water-jet technology and Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing. The use-case addressed the refurbishment of worn or corroded turbocharger components made of low-carbon martensitic stainless steel, with particular emphasis on casings and flanges.

During the visit, CRITT-TJFU researchers presented both the high-pressure water-jet system and the robotic Cold Spray equipment. Live demonstrations showed how the water-jet process can remove damaged material, prepare the surface and create the optimal geometry for repair Cold Spray, in turn, enables the restoration of the missing material by accelerating metal particles at high velocity, producing dense, well-bonded deposits without fully melting the substrate.

The researchers also presented the latest results on material characterisation, process optimisation, coating quality, thick deposit manufacturing, and adaptive repair based on component scanning and automatic robotic path generation.

Within the RemaNet project, Holonix contributes to the development of a Knowledge-Based System supporting remanufacturing decision-making. Integrated into the RemaNet platform, the system uses ontologies to represent components, materials, defects, repair technologies, process constraints and expected outcomes. By combining this knowledge with information collected from end-of-life components, it supports the identification of the most appropriate remanufacturing strategies.

The visit also enabled the Holonix team to explore opportunities for the vertical integration of its Industrial IoT stack with Cold Spray and water-jet equipment. Collecting and analysing process data—including pressure, temperature, robot speed, powder feed rate, vibrations, nozzle condition and energy consumption—could enhance process monitoring, traceability, performance optimisation and the continuous enrichment of the knowledge base.

Finally, the event provided an excellent networking opportunity with CRITT-TJFU, the University of Lorraine, and the other RemaNet partners, further strengthening collaboration between physical manufacturing processes, digital monitoring and knowledge-based decision support systems.
